Where Your Style Hasn't Been Fired, It's Been Pink Slipped.

Those Nails! YIKES!!
You can call me Make It Work Molly- Miss Pink Slip Fashion and I “met” one another through the Lucky Blogger Community and I’m so excited to be syndicating my own blog posts here!
Now that we have introductions out of the way, let’s get along to what I think needs to be given the pink slip. Nail art. And not all nail art is bad, but I’m talking about the outrageous patterns that clash with your outfit unless you’re in all black/white/grey tones.
I really really really HATE the multiple patterns and drawings and gems that people stick on their nails. First of all, let’s be honest, how long does that stuff actually last? If you’re anything like me and do absolutely anything with your nails there is no WAY it lasts past the picture. It just can’t.
A quick Pinterest search pulls up some fun ones:
I mean for real seriously? I truly hope if I were a guy and I went out with a girl with THIS on her nails for Valentine’s Day that I would find some way to sneak out the window of the restaurant bathroom. Yuck.
Oh this is another fun one:
I am truly concerned about the amount of time that you literally have on your hands (pun intended) if you have the time to paint itsy bitsy leopard dots on top of your gold French manicure.
Time to put the stilettos away and I’m not talking about the stilettos
that we walk in ladies. Yeah you got it, those stiletto nails that
you see just about every woman wearing nowadays. The ones that make
you cringe by just the thought of being accidentally poked in the eye
by these things. I think it’s time to give this trend the pink slip.
Not only am I getting a Vampira vibe, these Lady Gaga inspired claws
just seem dangerous to be around! Plus, what happens if one breaks??
Awkward anyone? Unless you’re a Scooby Doo monster or going as a witch for
Halloween, there’s no need to rock this celebrity-popularized trend.
Now for those who are guffawing and absolutely just can’t let this trend go
we’ll give you a break and say try a shorter version of the stiletto nail.
Short looks more chic and sophisticated. If these nails are too long the look kinda
turns costume-ish. I mean honestly you can’t do much with nails that are
6 inches long anyways!
I’m not sure why anyone would want to be caught in overly ripped jeans. This trend needs to be pink slipped and quickly. Here’s why: there is no way to make this jean look good on anyone. Either you look like a stuffed sausage or you look like a hobo, and trust me when I say neither are flattering.
If you’re going for a boho-chic outfit, try a wide leg jean or pant for a bottom or a tassel hem wrap. Don’t be afraid to toss in a wide brimmed hat for extra drama. The ripped jeans for women look however just screams Tara Reid from a 90’s teen flick and though we’re bringing back the 90’s, this still isn’t part of the decades-repeating-itself revival.
Let’s say you do get the urge to slip on a pair of sliced up jeans, go easy and opt for a pair that maybe has two or three rips and not those that are going up and down the jean revealing your whole leg and then some. Minor wear and tear or distressed detailing totally gets the OK. It’s when we go for extremes that this style easily transitions into slop-fest territory.
Let’s save a trip to the mall for the overly ripped jeans look and Pink Slip this trend.
Good ole Friday workdays often elicit a more casual than corporate vibe. Work flow may be slower, employees might enjoy longer breaks and lunch, and people usually slack off in the attire department (as people in the fashion know give those style perpetuators side eye).
Pink Slip is here to put an end to some casual friday styles that should quickly get the axe from you wardrobe. Although the Uggs and leggings look didn’t make the list of casual friday dont’s, we did make sure to include 5 top offenders that a lot of us have committed.
What Not To Wear on Casual Fridays
First off, we can’t even classify yoga pants as a style, as they simply are what the name bluntly states–Yoga Pants–or a piece of clothing that you work out in. Sure the breathable, soft cotton garment may seem like the best toss-on-and-go option for casual Friday style, but this comfy exercise pant isn’t appropriate for the office. In the same vein as leggings, skin tight yoga pants that often double as a lint roller, aren’t appropriate for casual wear, let alone casual wear fit for the office.
Try a dark wash, slim fit denim that will still offer the stretch and cottony comfort of a yoga pant, but will be more suitable for work.
Low Cut Tops–
We’ve all known the woman who shows up to the office with her enviable cleavage busting out of her low-cut stretchy blouse (probably some type of micro-fiber) and thought “can she tame those puppies!” We have to see women like this on the dance floor, at our favorite bars, or even at a sport’s game when we’re hanging out with our guy buds. The office space shouldn’t be one of those places. Not only is it distracting for women co-workers, it can bring on some unwanted and inappropriate attention from men. Let’s leave the twins for a girl’s night out and not casual friday at work. Keep it modest at work by pairing a camisole under that low-cut top.
Unfortunately high stilettos are not just a casual friday misstep. Some women come to the office sporting 6-inch platforms every day of the week. Unless your line of work involves a pole or serving drinks in an establishment with a pole, save the stilettos for being sexy outside of 9-5…including Fridays. A 3-inch pointy toe is a much more sophisticated–and nighttime chic–option.
For the more casual women in the office, an oversize, frumpy, mom-tee (aka husband’s wrinkled sports tee) is totally the bane of every fashionista’s existence. But what happens when that frumpy mom tries to be cool? She dons a message tee. Save the “high-school snark” for pubescent teens and keep it simple with a classic fitted crew neck or v-neck with blazer.
Open Back Tops–
Last but not least, open back tops are certainly no place for work. If you’re thinking of doing a day-to-night look and you won’t have time to swap out your clothes after leaving the office, try pairing your top with a sweater, jacket, or blazer for a nice workday look. Just having an open back at work, no matter how casual the office environment may seem, could be too informal, especially if it reveals any undergarments.
A staple at mall-mainstream stores like Old Navy and The Gap, the boyfriend jean was supposed to hit all the style checkpoints. We’re talking comfort, fashion, and cool factor. Let’s no forget, it’s also a beach gal’s perennial favorite if you’re close to the sand. Think Jen Aniston in striped tee, slashed boyfriend jeans, and flats.
The problem with this “schlubby” trend however, is that it easily falls into the category of something celebrities and models can sometimes pull off and the average woman may fall into the style don’t cateorgy when attempting.
What happens is that the baggy silhouette creates an unflattering backside (who doesn’t want to show off healthy junk-in-the-trunk proportions) and shorten the leg length, as the pants are most likely to be cuffed at the ankle. Layer on a thick cardigan with a slouchy tee and you have a recipe for a style slop fest.
If you want to pull off a shabby supermodel chic look, choose a jean flattering to your shpae but that has mild distressing. Keep the slouchy tee OR the cardigan and opt for a loose bun. Voila!
So it’s time to cut loose this relationship and PINK SLIP boyfriend jeans.
Looking for an out-of-this-world trend? Keep looking, because we’re tossing galactic prints back on a rocket and into the cosmos far far away from us.
Who knows how this whimsical style quickly found its way in our wardrobes. Maybe it was the Urban Outfitters, hipster-cool, fanaticism that drew us in, or maybe on some subconscious level, Miley Cyrus’s performance with a talking space cat further fueled our need for intergalactic space attire.
Either way, let’s ditch the galactic gimmicks–best suited for our pre-teen counterparts–and rejoin the modern world with contemporary, structural pieces…think asymmetrical hemlines or even peplums.
Pink Slip Fashion wouldn’t be surprised if the wide ankle cuff trend were started by Lindsay Lohan herself. Now that we’ve hopefully grown from our fashion crimes, we can shake down our shoe wardrobes and lock up these pumps for good. Ok…ok enough with the metaphors.
My guess is your style probably has a checkered past. With the resurgence of gargantuan black & white square patterns on runways this past Spring 2013, it’s easy to see how this checkers fashion trend quickly gathered speed in both high fashion circles and street style cultures. However, it’s time to call checkmate on this game and switch to a pattern that doesn’t make us look like walking chessboards.
Pink Slip Fashion is back this week with another ghastly trend that’s getting the ax!
Though we’re writing from “still sunny” California while the rest of the country is probably facing crippling blizzards or hail storms, that doesn’t mean we aren’t experts at determining what’s in and what’s out when it comes to fur!
So kick back in your fuzzy slippers with warm cocoa in hand and read below why colored fur is getting the PINK SLIP.
